Make sure that you have a valid keyfile on the computer where the 'Deadbolt' is installed. |

| Locking the file |

Select 'Open' from the 'File' menu and select the file you wish to protect.

| You will see the file name appear in the 'Response' window |
|

Select the encryption key to use (Details) |
|
3. |
Click anywhere on the Deadbolt image to lock the file
you will be prompted to confirm that you wish to lock this file. |

Next you will be prompted to add a comment. this is optional, but is recommended when locking files as to who locked the file, and why, and who possesses the key used.
details may be viewed with the file contents viewing utility. |

After proceeding, you will see 'wait' cursor while the file is locked. when finished, you will see the 'Deadbolt' image move to the locked position, and a confirmation message appear in the 'Response' window. |

| Errors |

If you attempt to lock or unlock a file without selecting a keyfile you will see the following message in the 'Response' window

If you attempt to lock or unlock a file with no file you will see the following message in the 'Response' window |

3. |
If you attempt to use a key that you do not own, or have not properly exported to a different machine, you will see the following error. |
